Taking its creative inspiration from the lifestyle of the Afar people, the WAWI 2021 bag collection was developed in collaboration with two artists; Micheal Tsegaye and Isabel Tesfazghi. The Afar society represents a vivid example of the many African cultures passing through the turbulence of globalization while resiliently struggling to maintain their indigenous identities. Photographed by Micheal Tsegaye in 2019, the Afar man and women featured on the bags manifest originality and boldness embedded within the social fabric of the Afar society.
